This edition of At Water’s Edge features collaborations between artists, often across great distances thanks to the wonders of the internet. [powerpress] Ari Porki and Christopher Alvarado’s Halla (Featured Release this month on Stillstream)

  1. “Aureole”
  2. “Ruska” with eyes cast down (the word means “autumn colors” in Finnish)
  3. “Lucid Stars” with Stephen Briggs
  4. (with Void of Realms)
  5. “The Sacred Stones”
  6. “Barometric Pleasures” with Jack Hertz
  7. “Musta” with Cousin Silas
  8. Halla
  9. Raja

After the first release of the collaboration between Ari Porki and Christopher Alvarado they thought it would be a good idea to add other talents from friends to showcase their ideas. Every person who joined completed the journey through the artistic vision. Eyes cast down (greg moorcroft) takes the lead with his beautiful ghostly guitars which phase in and out of the balance with wings of mist. The second guest track brings in stephen briggs guitar work cascading through the galaxy with the essence of harmony and wonder. Track 3 transcends with power and void of realms (k.j. Cazier) battles in armageddon to make the perfect track in harmonious conflict. It definitely was a pleasure having Jack Hertz work his electronic diversity to create the perfect inner environment and at last the master of angelic sounds weaving his web around musta.

Jack Hertz & Zreen Toyz – Fractal Blend of Primitive Icons and Numbers Stations (2014)

Zreen Toyz and Arcane Waves are projects by the French artist JLHB (born in 1954). He started with classical training on piano and percussions, but the stifling conformity of the academy pushes him toward the world of improvised music. Along the way he encounters composers such as Luc Ferrari and İlhan Mimaroğlu, but he considers the improvised Electronic Music and the Free Jazz of the early 70s as the foundation of his sonorous experiments. Since his first pieces created in 1970, he works the sound material following inspiration of the moment, a raw and instinctive approach by stratification where any imperfection or sound incident become a harshness on which to hang on atmospheres or reflections. In this way, he creates impalpable and timeless landscapes where vibrations, noises, and collages tend to blurring the structure of the piece. His music is used for artistic exhibitions, contemporary choreographies, documentary movies and as ambient backgrounds for video games. Read more about is work at

Inspired by the mystery of life, Jack Hertz manipulates sound to create intangible techno-organic impressions between music and noise. He has been composing and recording experimental music for more than 30 years. Generally, he is searching for a sonic middle ground between the real and the artificial. Utilizing computers, synthesizers, found objects, field recordings and digital effects. He designs his own instruments and effects with unique characteristics that create spaces and atmospheres a listener can explore. He finds all aspects of creating sound fascinating. From the early percussion instruments to the present day hardware and software innovations. He is particularly interested in sound synthesis of all kinds, especially Frequency Modulation.
